Duane Johnson, PE
Duane is the founder of Diamondback Fire Protection with over 30 years of experience in the fire protection industry. Diamondback is a dual tribute to his Arizona upbringing where he started his fire protection career as a fire extinguisher technician and his University of Maryland (UMD) education where he earned his degree and learned how to succeed. Go Dbacks! Go Terps! He patterns his life around rock-solid integrity, hard work, and reliability. Duane appreciates the opportunities, backing, and contributions others have provided to his growth over the years. As a result of this, he ensures that Diamondback gives back to the community through charitable contributions and volunteerism that has led to the packaging of nearly 600,000 meals in Southern Maryland. And somehow, he finds time to teach for the Fire Protection Engineering program at UMD. His experience as an installing contractor, consulting engineer, and AHJ provides a comprehensive advantage like no other. He is both a registered Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) and NICET certified technician.
After working as a fire extinguisher service technician in high school, he started inspecting fire protection systems. That progressed to installing fire sprinklers which eventually led to a sprinkler design opportunity. His design manager taught him the skills that led to his passion in the industry which turned into a career path. After moving his family to Maryland, he worked as a sprinkler design technician, consulting engineer, and in two different Fire Marshal’s offices before he founded Diamondback Fire Protection.
